GLAMOROUS PETS GROOMING CARE

Skin Care
We stock a good range of quality shampoos to suit different coats and skin types. If your dog suffers from a skin allergy, I advise you to provide me with a veterinary prescribed shampoo. Alternatively, I can use my own hypoallergenic shampoo.

Grooming Humanely
Many dogs are traumatized   by hours of avoidable and painful de-matting. This may put them off grooming for life. We consider shaving in these circumstances, an act of kindness. At Glamorous Pets we do not clip down to the skin.

  • Matting leads to many skin conditions
  • Hot Spots and sores
  • Skin rash
  • Flea  and Tick  infestations
  • Fungal and bacterial infections
  • Yeast infections
  • Moist eczema
  • Urine and feces scalding
  • Mites and lice
  • Maggot infestation
  • Eye and ear infections
  • Severe itching

A clipped coat may reveal skin that is inflamed, due to the lack of  coat being able to breath, possible trapped dampness and dirt that as accumulated underneath. This process may also expose sores, rashes, or parasites that may need veterinary treatment. Occasionally, dogs tend to scratch and rub their skin after shaving off a matted coat. This is normal, however you should watch that your dog does not over scratch, leading broken skin.. Dogs feel different after a matted coat is shaved off, lighter, cooler  and full of life. Other dogs may take time to adapt to the feeling of their new coat and in  some cases may hide and  sulk. Regardless of how the dog will look, they will feel 100% better, once they get used to this new feeling. Typically, shave downs are necessary for excessive matting, and minor nicks or cut’s can occur.

Prevention is better than a cure.

Don’t wait until he/she is matted again. Book your appointment now 519-421-1100

to ensure your dog always feels good and well cared for. This could also save you possible unnecessary veterinary bills.

Thank you for understanding that at Glamorous Pets we put your dogs welfare first. We can not justify hours of torture. Coats grow back surprisingly quickly.

We do not recommend shaving double coated dogs such as Pomeranian, Golden Retrievers, Aussie Shepherds, etc. It can damage the coat and cause alopecia ( loss of hair ). The undercoat serves mainly to keep the dog protected from extreme temperatures- both hot and cold –while the top coat helps to repel moisture and dirt.
